This qualification supports and equips learners with the skills and knowledge required to manage practice and lead others in health and social care and children and young people’s services.
This qualification constitutes two courses of action for those working with children and young people:
- The Management pathway: Assistant Managers and Deputy Managers who are looking to progress their career. It is also appropriate for Managers who have not yet achieved any vocational qualification at this level in a nursery or a preschool setting.
- The Advanced Practice pathway: This qualification also supports senior practitioners or educators, who would like to progress and evolve in their career but wish to remain active early years educators or practitioners or heads of staff within the management framework in a nursery or preschool setting.
About this qualification
This qualification supports the Learner in acquiring the skills and knowledge needed for managerial and leadership roles in a nursery or a pre-school setting.
This qualification provides two choices to learners:
- Managerial and Administration
- Advanced Practice
What does the qualification cover?
This qualification covers various topics:
• Safeguarding and protection
• Developing and carrying out policy
• Managing care services, change programmes and recruitment
• Promoting and developing best practice
• Supporting development and partnership working
• Care management
• Quality systems and improvement
Who is it suitable for?
This qualification is suitable for Assistant Managers and Deputy Managers or Educators leading staff and working closely with Manager of a nursery or pre-school. The qualification will support learners who are looking to progress in their career. Further, It is also appropriate for Managers or Assistant Manager who have not yet achieved a qualification at this level.
What are the entry requirements?
Learners should be at least 19 years old. It is also recommended that they will hold a Level 3 qualification or above in a related area.

Do you need to be working to take the qualification?
Learners will need to be working in the role of Manager or Assistant Manager or head of staff in a nursery or a pre-school, or have the access to opportunity to carry out responsibilities associated with these roles to be able to study this qualification.
What related qualifications can you progress to?
A degree in a related discipline.
